Our Process
THE LEATHER
Vegetable tanning is one of the oldest leathermaking processes in the world — and one of the most demanding. The hides soak for weeks in large vats of natural tannins drawn from Mimosa, Wattle, and Quebracho trees. Temperature, acidity, and saturation are monitored throughout. There are no shortcuts and no way to rush it. After tanning, the hides go through dyeing, conditioning with oils and waxes, and a three-day controlled air-dry before final grading. We select only the hides that meet our standard. Most don't make the cut.
THE BELT
Every belt is cut, shaped, and finished by hand from the strongest, thickest full-grain leather available. No two are identical — the grain, the character, the way it breaks in over time is unique to every hide. Depending on the design, each belt goes through:
✔ Cutting to length
✔ Edge rounding & burnishing
✔ Skiving & conditioning
✔ Precision hole punching
✔ Sealing & hardware installation
✔ Pre-shipment inspection
Every step matters. Nothing ships until it's right.
CARE
SOF mantra: Take care of your gear and your gear will take care of you.
Clean and condition your belt periodically and it will age beautifully for decades. The belt develops character the same way you do — through use. Through good days and hard ones. Through showing up when it wasn't easy and coming out the other side. The patina that builds over decades isn't wear. It's a record. Every scratch, every crease tells a story — just like your scars and the wrinkles you've earned along the way. That's what it means to be worn with purpose.
Every Brand X Belt is crafted with care and worn with purpose.
